AMBER
Information
AMBER
is a fossilized tree resin, a species of pine, pinus
succinifera. It is from the Eocene period of the Tertiary
formation, approximately 50 million years ago.
The
early Greeks named it “ELECTRON” which is where we
derive the word “ELECTRICITY”. Amber, when rubbed
against cloth, will demonstrate negative electrical
properties.
The
Dominican Amber deposits are in the north-western part of the
country. Found in these places are all the beautiful colors;
yellow, honey orange, red, and the more rare blue & green.
AMBER
is also a prehistoric crystal tomb for insects like spiders,
ants, & flies.
(These pieces are the more rare and
expensive ones.)

es una resina fosilizada de una especie de pino extinguida,
pinus succinifera. (Aproximada 50 millones de años
atrás.)
Los
griegos lo bautizaron con el nombre “ELECTRON” de
donde deriva la palabra electricidad. Cuando se frota sobre un
trozo de tela produce propiedades eléctricas negativas.
Los
depósitos de Ámbar en la República
Dominicana se encuentran en el nor-oeste. Aquí se
descubren los colores más hermosos; amarillo
transparente, miel anaranjado, rojo, y los más raros
azul y verde.
ÁMBAR
es también una cristalina y prehistórica tumba
de insectos tales como arañas, hormigas, moscas, etc.
(Estas piezas son las más raras y costosas.)

Information
LARIMAR
is rare and a new stone. It is the only semiprecious gem with
the blue color of the sea found in the Caribbean Islands. Each
piece has its own unique natural colors from shades of blue to
green.
One
of the few places in the world where it is found is in the
south western part (the Bahoruco Mountains) of the Dominican
Republic. It was discovered in 1974.
The
USA Smithsonian Institute identification indicates that
Larimar is a PECTOLITE, with a Hardness point of 5 to 6 in the
MOHS scale.

Cada piedra tiene su
colornatural de diferentes
colores azul a verde.
LARIMAR
es nueva, es rara, hasta la fecha, el único deposito
que existe, se encuentra en el sur-oeste (las montanas de
Bahoruco) de la República Dominicana.
Fue
descubierta recientemente en 1974.
El Instituto Smithsonian
de los U.S.A.,
la identificó como PECTOLITA;
cuya
dureza es de 5 a 6 en la escala de MOHS.
LARIMAR
es la única piedra semi-preciosa,
con los colores
del mar Caribe.
